The 67th Annual Mystic Outdoor Art Festival transforms downtown Mystic this August. This celebrated event takes place Saturday August 9th and Sunday August 10th. Over 40,000 visitors attend this premier two-day festival annually. Fine art painter Debra Grubbs showcases her distinctive work at Booth C95. She received her Fine Arts degree emphasizing painting from Las Positas College. Her paintings have been sold and exhibited across the United States.

The oldest festival of its kind in the Northeast showcases exceptional talent. Artists display their work along historic streets near the Mystic River. This juried show serves discriminating art enthusiasts and weekend visitors alike.

Spotlight on Debra Grubbs – Booth C95

Grubbs began painting in watercolors while studying in Andover, Massachusetts as a teenager. She later studied with various artists after moving to California. Her formal training expanded her skills in acrylics and watercolor techniques.

The artist previously served as Director of Visual Arts for Livermore Public Schools. This educational background enriches her artistic perspective and creative approach. Her work focuses on exploring color relationships within traditional subject matter.

Wildlife Art Magazine featured her work in “Women Making Magic with Unusual Media.” This recognition highlights her innovative approach to artistic expression. Her artwork demonstrates unique techniques and compelling visual storytelling.

Artistic Philosophy and Technique

Grubbs believes artists are like explorers discovering new creative territories. After mastering drawing and painting fundamentals, she focuses on color exploration. Her compositions change with each painting while maintaining consistent subject matter.

Each painting uses only one red, green, and yellow hue selection. Blue and white are introduced as paintings develop further. This controlled palette creates harmonious and sophisticated color relationships.

Festival Experience and Activities

Saturday festivities run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. continuously. Sunday hours extend from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for extended viewing.

As a juried art show, professional standards ensure exceptional quality. Expert judges evaluate each artist’s portfolio before festival acceptance carefully. This selective process maintains outstanding artwork throughout the entire event.
