Powerful Figurative Art at Mystic’s Renowned Festival
The 67th Mystic Outdoor Art Festival returns this August 9-10 weekend. This celebrated event showcases exceptional artistic talent throughout historic downtown Mystic. As the oldest juried art show in the Northeast, it attracts discriminating art enthusiasts. One compelling figurative artist, Jeremy Schilling, deserves special attention at Booth H74.

Jeremy Schilling – Booth H74
Jeremy Schilling brings powerful figurative artistry to this year’s festival. The Providence, Rhode Island, artist creates quiet yet compelling works in multiple mediums. His portfolio demonstrates mastery of watercolor, oil painting, and charcoal drawing techniques.
Schilling has exhibited at Gold Gallery in Boston’s SoWa District previously. His work also appeared at Wickford Arts Association Gallery and Mystic Arts Center Gallery. He participates in various festivals, including Wickford and Scituate Art Festivals annually.
The artist creates nude depictions of real men and women with remarkable sensitivity. His approach emphasizes honesty and authenticity over idealized representation. Each piece captures genuine human moments and emotions through skilled observation.
Artistic Vision and Process
Schilling describes his work as an introspective narration of thoughtful reflections continuously. His artwork explores the human psyche and internal conflicts that dwell within. He pushes relationships between figures and their environments through careful composition.
His life drawing sessions have produced over 1000 charcoal works since September 2020. Each drawing represents a five-minute conversation between model and artist. The model’s pose becomes a question; his composition and marks provide responses.
Working from life creates unique experiences emphasizing fleeting observation moments. He captures only the most important elements within limited timeframes. This constraint creates honest decision-making journals within each drawing.
His charcoal work emphasizes physicality of the medium over refined detail. Reactionary decision-making responds directly to live model poses and gestures. These spontaneous choices reveal authentic artistic expression and immediate responses.
Gallery Recognition and Collections
Schilling’s work has gained recognition throughout New England’s art community steadily. His paintings appear on Saatchi Art alongside other emerging talents. The artist maintains active online portfolios showcasing his diverse body of work.
His oil painting “Thinking of All the Times I Might Never See You Again” demonstrates his narrative painting approach. This 50×38 inch canvas explores complex emotional territories through figurative representation.
The artist collaborates with photographer Adrienne Wooster on joint exhibitions occasionally. These partnerships allow viewers to appreciate new perspectives on both artists’ work.
