Brett Swanson: Comic Artist Extraordinaire at Booth H12

Brett Swanson, a 55-year-old artist and comic book publisher from Stonington, has worked as a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier for 30 years. Since 2008 he has dutifully walked a route in downtown Mystic. This local favorite brings his artistic talents to the festival each year.

Swanson creates Power Kid Comics, personally signing books for young fans at the festival. He prefers working in the “old school” genre of hand drawing all his artwork. Instead of using computer graphics, he graduated from the Joe Kubert School of Art.

His booth showcases original comic artwork alongside acrylic paintings. Children gather around as he demonstrates drawing techniques. Parents appreciate his dedication to traditional artistry in an increasingly digital world.

Festival Experience and Community Impact

The festival operates under the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce organization. This two-day juried arts and crafts festival spans downtown Mystic. Visitors enjoy food vendors, live demonstrations, and interactive art experiences.

Local businesses benefit from increased foot traffic during festival weekend. Hotels book solid while restaurants serve festival-goers throughout both days. The economic impact extends beyond the weekend itself.

Artists like Brett Swanson represent the festival’s commitment to quality craftsmanship. His presence at Booth H12 adds personality to an already vibrant event. Young and old connect over shared appreciation for hand-drawn comic art.

The Mystic Outdoor Art Festival continues attracting new generations of art lovers. Traditional techniques meet contemporary themes in this historic seaport setting. Brett Swanson’s booth exemplifies this perfect blend of old and new artistic expression.
