Lynne Puhalla

Lynne Puhalla, exhibiting at Booth C30 in the Ceramics category at the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival, offers a distinct blend of nature-inspired functional pottery and innovative woven basketry. Her signature “Garden to Table” collection features tableware formed by pressing real leaves from her own garden into the clay, maintaining intricate botanical details through the firing process. Each piece is carefully stained and glazed to highlight these organic patterns, resulting in both artistic and utilitarian items—including berry bowls, soup bowls, vases, appetizer plates, and more. All functional pottery is dishwasher safe and oven/microwave proof—making them practical for everyday use as well as visually unique additions to any home.

Puhalla’s creativity extends to her one-of-a-kind woven baskets. These pieces start as hand-built clay bases that feature leaf impressions or fabric textures, then are finished with rims pierced to allow weaving. Using traditional wickerwork techniques honed over 30 years, Puhalla weaves natural or colored reed into the pottery, often embellishing the baskets with materials such as leather, copper, glass beads, or feathers. Each basket is entirely unique, with sizes ranging from 8 to 42 inches, and cannot be duplicated.

Drawn from her background in both design and sculpture, Puhalla’s work is marked by a continuous exploration of form, shape, and texture. At the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to speak directly with her about her process and the inspiration she finds in the natural world. Whether you seek functional wares or striking statement pieces, Lynne Puhalla’s ceramics at Booth C30 promise an engaging encounter with the beauty of handcrafted artistry rooted in both tradition and nature.
